Sam-Bradfords-Shoulder-InjuredOklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford suffered a shoulder sprain in the Sooners game against BYU on Saturday. Late in the second quarter, blitzing BYU linebacker Coleby Clawson cleanly drilled Bradford into the turf at the Cowboys new stadium. Watching Oklahoma after Bradford’s injury you quickly realize the hopes of Sooner Nation rest solely on his ability to come back and lead them through the tough part of their schedule. It’s definitely a bummer for Oklahoma but the Sooners are not done.

The good news for Oklahoma is the next few games are winnable even without Bradford. Home games against Idaho Sate and Tulsa are on the schedule before an off week. The next big test is at Miami on October 3rd.

Yet, it’s not clear as to when we could expect Bradford to return to action. The early speculation is that he will be out 2-4 weeks. They are not dead yet. In recent history we have seen teams rebound from an early loss to slip into the BCS title game. The Gators were stunned at home last year by Ole Miss and rebounded to win it all.

An injury like this is a reminder of just how fragile the hopes and aspirations of ANY team really are. Could the Gators lose Tebow or Texas lose McCoy and win a championship? I doubt it.

Yet, even without Bradford the Sooners had a couple of chances to win this game. Losing Bradford certainly contributed to the loss but sloppy play (12 penalties and 2 turnovers) is the real reason the Sooners are headed back to Norman wondering what if.
